Changes in Minam: new Vice Minister and another interim president of Senace

The Ministry of the Environment (Minam) appointed, by supreme resolution No. 008-2024-MINAM, Mrs. Raquel Hilianova Soto Torres to the position of Vice Minister of Strategic Development of Natural Resources.

Likewise, supreme resolution No. 007-2024-MINAM confirms the resignation of Mariela Celsa Cánepa Montalvo, thanking her for the services provided since October 2023. It should be noted that, since February of this year, the new minister of the portfolio is Juan Carlos Castro Vargas.

It is not the only change in Minam. Through supreme resolution No. 009-2024-MINAM, the ministry concluded the assignment to Rosa Francisca Zavala Correa of the functions of the executive presidency of the National Environmental Certification Service for Sustainable Investments (Senace).

Supreme resolution No. 010-2024-MINAM, also published this Friday in El Peruano, appoints in his place, on an interim basis, the director of the General Directorate of Environmental Management Policies and Instruments of Minam, Yury Pinto.

Zavala had been appointed, also on an interim basis, to the presidency of Senace only in October, when she was vice minister of Environmental Management. However, she resigned from the Executive on March 27 and was replaced by Edgar Romero La Puente. Now, she handed over the Senace.

Senace is a specialized public body, attached to Minam, which is in charge of reviewing and approving detailed Environmental Impact Studies (EIA-d) of public, private or mixed capital investment projects.

The projects evaluated by said Peruvian organization are national in scope and contemplate activities, constructions, works and other commercial and service activities that can cause significant environmental impacts.
