The Comprehensive Health Insurance reported about a second deadline to collect reimbursement for funeral expenses that expired with the lifting of the COVID-19 health emergency.

Accredited persons who did not receive the financial funeral benefit provided by the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) have a new deadline to make this benefit effective. Until Tuesday, April 30, relatives of deceased policyholders will be able to approach the Banco de la Nación agencies and request the amount.

This is the second time that the SIS offers an extraordinary period to make the payment, since the previous one was until October 30, 2023. Let us remember that this subsidy is intended to cover the expenses of the funeral service and is provided for the purpose of alleviate the financial burden of the loss of a family member or loved one.

SIS: how do I know if I am a beneficiary of funeral insurance?

To check if you are on the list of beneficiaries of SIS funeral insurance, go to THIS LINK and complete the information of the member and the borrower.

Keep in mind that this measure is for those accredited people who submitted the request for the funeral subsidy between January 2019 and June 2022, whose deadline to collect expired with the lifting of the state of health emergency due to COVID-19. The largest number of those accredited to collect the economic funeral benefit reside in Lima (994). The others are located in the following regions:

SIS: How much is the funeral insurance amount?

The financial funeral benefit from the SIS recognizes S/350 per stillborn child with more than 28 weeks of gestation and per newborn up to 28 days old. Likewise, it grants S/700 for a deceased person from 29 days to less than 12 years of age and S/1,000 from 12 years of age or older. Likewise, this benefit contributes to the payment of:

  • Coffin.
  • Burning chapel.
  • Shroud.
  • Right to cremation (only if authorized by the family member).
  • Niche.
  • Transfer of the deceased insured (from the health facility to the wake and from the wake to the cemetery).

What are the requirements to access the SIS funeral subsidy?

In order for the SIS to reimburse you for the expense you made for the funeral, you must meet these requirements and present the following documents:

  • Complete the document requesting payment of the financial funeral benefit, which must be signed by the deceased’s borrower.
  • Original proof of payment for funeral services.
  • Certified copy of death certificate issued by Reniec.
  • Affidavit of expenses for financial funeral benefits.
  • In case of cremation, you will have to present a copy of the authorization.
  • If you are not designated as accredited, you must present the affidavit of 4th degree of consanguinity or 3rd degree of affinity.
  • If the expenses were incurred in a rural area: sworn declaration of expenses for services rendered.

SIS: how to collect the funeral allowance?

  • Go to the health center where the insured person died within 60 calendar days from the day after the death. Additionally, you can go to the establishment closest to your place of origin or where you joined.
  • Send the required documents for the health center to verify. If there are observations, these will be recorded in the charge document sent to the borrower. To do this, there is a period of no more than 2 business days to make corrections and, if this time expires, the file will be returned.

  • Go to the Banco de la Nación offices and request a refund. Don’t forget to carry your ID so you can withdraw the money at any agency and collect it within 9 months from the date it was issued.
