BBVA Bank filed a complaint through its legal representation against some senior officials who, according to the banking entity’s accusation, would be involved in the approval of 40 leasing operations with fishing companies, without guarantees, adding up to a total of S/280 million.
Among those involved are industrial engineer Marco Gaitán Chunga, who plays the role of director of the branch located in the Plaza Lima Norte shopping center; Yazmín Melgarejo Ramos, in charge of the Miraflores branch, as well as officials Christian Bobadilla Ortega and Alessandro Pino Silva. The accusation was presented before the prosecutors corresponding to the districts of Miraflores, Surquillo and San Borja on December 29, 2023
“Through various acts of internal investigation (review of documents, visits to the homes reported by the interveners, interviews with those involved, among others), BBVA identified that there were fraudulent acts (which we now denounce) and that they would have occurred through the conspiracy of the accused to harm the bank through the fraudulent processing of leasing, causing our banking entity to disburse large sums of money under the understanding that it paid the corresponding supplier for the acquisition of the goods subject to financial lease. However, what actually happened was that the money disbursed would be distributed between the accused and their companies,” emerges in one of the three lawsuits filed by the financial entity.
The complaint filed by Banco BBVA Perú reveals a collusion scheme in which prominent executives of the banking institution colluded with businessmen of dubious reputation, linked to fishing entities lacking the necessary guarantees. The seriousness of the situation deepens when discovering that not only were the vessels acquired through leasing agreements non-existent, but also that the assets that these companies offered as support for operations were invalid. A total of 40 leasing operations involved have been identified, divided into three lawsuits filed by the Spanish-Peruvian banking entity, which accumulate a value of S/280 million. This complex network of fraudulent operations stands out not only for its financial magnitude, but also for the sophistication and the level of apparent coordination between the bank executives and the businessmen involved.
The complaint reaches the brothers Camilo and Luis Peirano Blondet, who have a history of cases of black fishing with the company Superfish. In addition, Camilo Peirano was linked to a drug trafficking case with the Villa de Oro company (which he owned) when 1,291 kilos of cocaine hydrochloride were found in three containers that supposedly contained frozen squid. Although he was acquitted in May 2022, he had to serve 28 months of preventive detention.
What does leasing consist of?
Leasing is configured as a financing modality in which the bank acquires an asset for subsequent use by the client through a financial leasing scheme. This agreement allows the client to eventually acquire the good for a symbolic amount once full payment of the established installments has been completed.
