In January of this year, Peruvian pomegranate exports totaled US$6,681,000, 448% more than in the same month of 2023, according to the Association of Exporters (Adex).
In detail, 96.6% of the shipment was fresh pomegranates, for US$6,451,000 (2,285 tons) and frozen pomegranates, for US$230,000 (48,000 tons).
Data Trade from Adex, points out that The Netherlands is the main receiving market with transactions for US$5 million 561,000, since it accounts for 83% of total shipments. Brazil follows with US$325,000 and the United States, with US$304,000. The United Kingdom (US$196,371) and Germany (US$155,414) complete the podium.
There are eight destinations, in total, where the Peruvian pomegranate arrived – rich in vitamins C, E, K and which has astringent, anti-inflammatory and cleansing properties; and helps reduce blood pressure—and Brazil recorded the highest shipment variation rate (718%), along with the United States (454%), the Netherlands (429%) and Germany (203%).
Adex reminds that the Peruvian pomegranate is considered a superfood and 80% of its production comes from Ica. Arequipa, Lambayeque, Lima and Áncash complete the rest, although Tacna has recently been taking center stage.
