Representatives of entities such as EHNE, ENBA, UAGA and UAGN They have appeared this Tuesday in Donostia-San Sebastián to protest the unsustainable situation faced by workers in the primary sector, especially “the livestock subsectors”.

Faced with this situation, agricultural organizations have called different concentrations in front of shopping centers, which will start on the 28th in Navarra and will conclude on January 18 in Bizkaia.

They claim that the “unstoppable and exponential growth in production costs”, which are around 30%, has caused the “suffocation” of the sector, which “cannot pass on its production costs to the next link in the chain.”

They give as an example milk sector, whose production costs have risen to between 0.40 and 0.42 euros per liter, while farmers charge between 0.35 and 0.37 euros per liter.

The agricultural organizations ask that the direct aid granted by the Basque and Navarrese governments be accompanied by “structural measures” and also demand that progress be made to achieve a fairer food chain.

In this context, they recognize the “theoretical potential” contained in the recently approved reform of the Food Chain Law, at the same time that they ask the Spanish Executive for its “immediate application” and the regional governments to develop its content with the launch, for example, of price observatories.
