INEI: in Peru there are about 3 million companies as of September 2021

In the third quarter of 2021, the number of active companies registered in the Central Directory of Companies and Establishments amounted to 2,936,294 companies, a figure higher by 8.7% in relation to the same quarter of 2020, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the Business Demography Technical Report in Peru.

It also reported that 73,651 companies were established between July and September of this year, while 8,554 were canceled, registering a net variation of 65.97 companies. The net variation is the difference between the number of companies created or reactivated and the number of those that were terminated in the study period.

It is worth mentioning that the birth rate, which relates the companies created in the third quarter of 2021 with the business stock at the end of the period, constituted 2.5% of the total; while the business mortality rate, which shows the relationship between the companies that stopped operating with the stock at the end of the period in question, was 0.3%; consequently, a net variation rate of 2.2% was obtained.

Business creation decreased by 5.9%

The INEI reported that, in the study quarter, 73,651 companies were created, a 5.9% lower figure compared to the same period of the previous year. The highest number of registrations occurred in the activities of retail trade (30.5%), wholesale trade (14.0%), other services, which include activities of personal services, human health, real estate, administration public, artistic, leisure and recreational, education, financial and insurance (10.7%), food and beverage service activities (8.9%), services provided to companies (8.0%), manufacturing industries ( 7.4%), as well as transportation and storage (6.6%).

More than 8,550 companies were terminated due to closure or permanent termination

In the third quarter of this year, 8,554 companies were terminated throughout the country due to the closure or definitive cessation of their activities, registering an increase of 46.6% compared to the same period of the previous year. When comparing with the previous quarter (April-May-June 2021), a net variation of 461 companies was registered, a figure that represented an increase of 5.7% in the number of cancellations.

By structure, the highest percentage of casualties was recorded by retail trade (35.2%), followed by wholesale trade (17.9%), other services (11.1%), transportation and storage (8, 9%), food and beverage service activities (6.8%) and manufacturing industries (6.0%), among the main ones.

More than 28,800 companies were created in Lima

In the quarter of the study, 28,850 companies were created in Lima, a figure that represented 39.2% of the total, this means that, out of every ten new companies, four started activities in this department. On the contrary, 3,923 companies were decommissioned in Lima, representing 45.9% of the total, which indicates that, out of every ten companies decommissioned, five were reported in this jurisdiction.

Individuals with businesses represented 66.0% of the total companies created

In the third quarter of this year, and according to the legal constitution adopted by the companies, natural persons (with business) represented 66.0%, followed by those constituted as a public limited company (14.9%) and those that operated under the modality of individual limited liability company (12.1%), among the most significant. In the case of companies in retirement status, natural persons accounted for 97.4% of the total.

54.2% of companies created as natural persons in the country are run by women

In the quarter of analysis, in Peru there were 48,616 companies registered as natural persons, of which 26,357 companies were run by women, representing 54.2% of the total; which evidenced a greater participation of women in the management of these types of companies.

Likewise, Lima registered 17,802 companies registered as natural persons, of which 52.3% were led by women and 47.7% by men.

Women led the management of companies created as natural persons in 24 departments

In 24 departments in which companies were created as natural persons, there was a greater participation of women, highlighting Moquegua with 59.1%, followed by Junín with 59.0%, Tumbes with 58.8%, San Martín with 58.7 %, Pasco and Arequipa with 58.4% each, and Ica with 57.9%, among the most representative. On the other hand, the only department where companies led by men predominated was Apurímac with 51.0%.

Men led construction companies

In the quarter of the study, men led the management of companies registered as natural persons in the economic activities of construction (78.2%), mining and quarrying (75.6%), transportation and storage (73.4%), among The main.

On the other hand, women had a greater participation in the management of companies constituted as natural persons in the area of ​​beauty salons (70.6%), retail trade (62.7%), wholesale trade (60.4%), service activities of food and beverages (60.3%) and accommodation activities (59.4%).
