Jorge Chávez Airport: progress of expansion works is close to 80%

The works on the New Jorge Chávez International Airport Expansion Project are 80% complete, according to President Dina Boluarte.

According to the head of state, Jorge Chávez will be the first airport city in South America and, after investing more than US$2,000 million in its modification, it will turn Peru into a commercial, logistical and tourist hub for the entire region. It will be three times larger than the current one.

Boluarte added that The strategic location of the international airport, in Callao, brings us closer not only to the Chalaco port, but also to the Chancay megaport, which “will allow connectivity to Asia, Europe and the rest of America.”

Apart from the US$2 billion invested, more than US$300 million will be allocated from third parties for five commercial projects in the new airport city.

How many passengers will the new Jorge Chávez Airport transport?

“With the start of operations, between the end of the year or the beginning of next year, the capacity to serve passengers will double, from 15 to 30 million,” added the Minister of Transport and Communications, Raúl Pérez-Reyes.

Likewise, in Boluarte’s opinion, the new runway and the new single seismically isolated terminal will be “fundamental” to continue the operation and immediately serve humanitarian flights and Peruvians who are affected by various natural phenomena.
