Quina also provides guidance on mobile transfers, credit assessments, financial products and insurance, branch locations, channels for filing claims, requirements and complaints.

With this launch, the National bank becomes the first financial institution in the country to offer personalized services to Quechua speakers. Quina is available 24 hours a day through WhatsApp (at 966 216 942) or free calls to its hotline (at 0800-10-700).

Why is the virtual assistant of the Banco de la Nación called ‘Quina’?

The cinchona tree is recognized as the national symbol of Peru and is represented on the country’s coat of arms. In addition to its cultural and historical significance, during the COVID-19 pandemic, cinchona proved useful in the treatment of pneumonia; since the alkaloid extracted from its bark is a powerful remedy used to reduce fever. Currently, this species is in danger of extinction due to challenges such as deforestation and the lack of attention it has received.

“For this reason, the Banco de la Nación once again values quina and commemorates its great contribution to medicine and the culture of Peru, naming the first bilingual virtual advisor of a bank in the country with the name ‘Quina’. Because, just as cinchona is the natural remedy to relieve fever, Quina is the digital response of the Banco de la Nación to promote the financial inclusion of all Peruvians,” the BN said in a press release.
