MEF prepares the return of the Chlimper law to help agro-export companies

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Jose Aristaannounced that They will try to bring back the agrarian promotion law (Law 27360) — which was repealed at the end of 2020 after a series of worker protests.

“We are going to go back and try to put again, in the hands of Congress, the legislation that we previously had in agriculture. Why do you have to kill something that worked well?” said the official in ‘Special digital edition’.

Edge was in favor of “reducing labor rigidity” after the changes in the so-called Chlimper law —conceived at the end of the Alberto Fujimori regime as a temporary measure, but which lasted almost two decades—.

With the demonstrations, it was possible to increase the payment to workers and also provide them with social benefits, as well as progressively raise the payment of income tax for agro-exporters from 15% to 29.5%.

The head of the MEF noted that there are four large agricultural projects and, with the return of the Chlimper law, they will try to recover the sector with Chinecas, Chavimochic, Alto Piura and Majes.

“There are more than 300,000 hectares with these projects. What do you do with all this if you have a legal framework in which people cannot hire labor to get the best out of it? It is an investment wasted,” he noted.
