Midis will renegotiate a new budget with the MEF for common pots

The Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) will renegotiate a new budget with its counterpart of Economy and Finance (MEF) to provide greater resources to the common potsassured the Network of Common Pots of Lima.

A group of mothers and collaborators of these feeding centers arrived this Friday morning outside the headquarters of the midislocated in San Isidro, where they were received with a document that, in addition to the budget issue, contains the requirement to eliminate the distance of 500 meters between pot and pot.

Fortunata Palomino, representative of the Network of Common Pots of Limaexplains that Midis has offered them a budget of up to S/144 million for the current year: S/89 million for the first semester, and S/51 for the second.

This amount would be insufficient and would put at risk the operation of the 4,500 pots that exist in Peru, which would see the value of their rations reduced from S/3.60 to S/2.30.

“They have told us that it will be modified, since the meeting between the technical teams of both is missing. The next appointment is the first week of April and we hope to be called,” he said.

The distance of 500 meters was determined in 2022 through the regulations of Law 31458, which recognizes common pots and guarantees their sustainability, financing and the productive work of their beneficiaries, promoting their entrepreneurship. Before, there was no minimum distance, and two pots could even exist together.

This provision was reviewed through Ministerial Resolution No. 000044-2024-MIDIS, published this Monday, but now they ask that it be made official by decree. If this does not occur, no less than 30% of establishments that serve the most vulnerable populations in the country could close.

12 products are delivered to the pots, including milk, sugar, rice, oats, tuna, noodles and soups. However, with the new budget, the leaders fear that the provision will be cut.
