BCRP: annual trade surplus exceeds US $ 13,000 million as of October 2021

The Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) reported that the trade balance reached a surplus of US $ 13,653 million in the last 12 months to October 2021.

In monthly terms, in October, the trade balance surplus totaled US $ 1,429 million, US $ 984 million higher than that of October 2019. The advance corresponds to the high terms of trade, mainly prices of export mining products. Likewise, it had a positive influence on the exported volume of non-traditional products, particularly agriculture, textiles and chemicals.

From January to October, a trade surplus of US $ 11,450 million accumulates, vastly higher than that registered in previous years.

In October, exports amounted to US $ 5,676 million, 36.5% and 21.1% higher than those of October 2019 and 2020, respectively, reflecting the high prices of metals and the recovery of global activity.

In the first 10 months of 2021, exports totaled US $ 50,726 million, 29.8% higher than the same period in 2019.

Imports reached US $ 4,247 million in October, 14.4% and 31% higher than that reported in October 2019 and 2020, respectively, with generalized increases in all their items, as a result of the recovery in domestic demand and the highest prices. Accumulated purchases from abroad were US $ 39,276 million in 2021, 14% higher than in the same period in 2019.
