At the end of the third quarter of 2021, 52.6% of Peruvians over 18 years of age had an account in the financial system. The figure represents a year-on-year growth of 8.6%, according to a report prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
While in the employed population over 18 years of age, the percentage rises to 55.2%, which is equivalent to an increase of 6.9% in relation to the same period last year.
In detail, 54.5% have a savings account or salary account, 2.4% have a current account, and 0.6% have a fixed-term account. In the case of savings accounts, the growth is 7.0%.
Along the same lines, taking into account the demographic distribution in the urban area, 60.7% of the employed population has a savings account or salary account, this is 6.8% more than what was registered in the third quarter of 2020.
Finally, the age group between 30 and 44 years accumulates 60.3% of the people with an account in the financial system, followed by young people between 18 and 29 years old, where 58.2% are included in the system financial. The growth is 10.3% and 10.8%, respectively.
