The Regional Government of La Libertad, headed by César Acuña Peralta, closed 2023 with an execution of 0% of its budget in public investment for public order and security projects, according to ComexPerú.
Acuña Peralta, in his first year in office, had only one project in his hands and even then he did not execute a single project. In that period, the Liberteño region recorded more than 300 homicides.
“It appears as if the executed budget of that entire sector was zero but it is due to a statistical result. In any case, if you have a single project and you don’t do it… it doesn’t speak well of the authority’s performance,” mentioned Paulo Quequezana, senior analyst of economic studies at ComexPerú.
From ComexPerú they emphasized that this lack of execution responds to works and projects associated with order and citizen security in the chapter of public investment, very apart from what is spent on the bulk of the budget on operations and logistics to address this problem.
Other regions with little execution of public investment in public order and security are Huancavelica (17%) and Puno (26%).
