The congresswoman Isabel Cortez (Democratic Change-Together for Peru) proposes that the range of beneficiaries of the Pensión 65 program be expanded, so that it reaches older adults in poverty according to the criteria of the Household Targeting System (Sisfoh), Well today only those who are in extreme poverty are considered.

Bill 6819 specifies in a complementary provision that the process of distributing amounts to beneficiaries will continue in accordance with the provisions of Supreme Decree 081-2011-PCM. While the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) will be responsible for making the necessary regulatory adjustments to comply with the standard.

The document explains how older adults in Peru are unprotected, since the majority do not have a private or public pension. In addition, many of the Peruvian family households are headed by older adults and the majority are women from rural areas. Of the total number of households in the country, 25.9% have an older adult as the head of the household, according to the INEI.

The measure must be evaluated by the Congressional committees before reaching the Plenary Session for voting and approval.

How does Pensión 65 work?

The program Pension 65 It has already been in operation for more than 10 years and is aimed at adults over 65 years of age who lack basic conditions for their maintenance, who are given a financial subsidy of S/250 every two months so that their needs are met.

People who can benefit from this program must have their DNI, not receive any type of pension and their home must be classified as extremely poor by Sisfoh.
