Canada wins the third stage of Chavimochic

With a projected investment of US$750 million, Canada was awarded the contract to complete the third stage of the Chavimochic irrigation project, located in La Libertad.

The president of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola, specified that the Canadian government’s proposal, to execute the work through the Government to Government (G2G) modality, surpassed that of the Netherlands and will serve to generate “more than 40,000 hectares of cultivation and thousands of jobs.”

“In the session of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation reported that today at noon the award envelopes in the Chavimochic Government-to-Government project have been opened, and the government of Canada has obtained the approval ”said the head of the PCM.

Otárola stated that the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, will travel to the Liberteña region in the coming days to sign the contract and celebrate the news with all the farmers in the north of the country.

The Chavimochic project, now in the hands of Canada, derives water from the Santa River for irrigation of the valleys and intervals of Chao, Virú, Moche and Chicama. In its full development, it will be able to supply the irrigation of approximately 160,000 hectares of land, both new and to be improved.

For the completion of the third stage, an anti-corruption clause is contemplated, which involves the surveillance of the Executive Branch and the Comptroller General of the Republic, through their concurrent control in the execution of the components of this important water infrastructure work.
