Therefore, it is essential that you are aware of the labor licenses in force in 2024, all of which guarantee that the employee continues to receive his or her remuneration.

Below, we detail what they are and the period that is granted for each work license, according to information shared by labor lawyer Kelly Sarmiento. These are lifesavers for your well-being and balance between your work and personal life.

What is paid work leave?

Work licenses allow you to be temporarily absent from work for specific reasons, whether due to health, family or personal issues, without losing financial compensation. This right supports the quality of life of employees by providing them with the peace of mind necessary to face various situations without sacrificing their financial stability.

The 16 paid work licenses in force this 2024

  • Maternity licence: 98 days (49 prenatal days and 49 postnatal days).
  • Paternity leave: 10 days that can be extended to 20 in case of premature or multiple births.
  • Death: 5 days for loss of a direct family member, but with the possibility of extension.
  • Serious illness or serious accident in immediate family members: 7 days of rest.
  • Medical assistance and rehabilitation therapy for people with disabilities: 56 hours a year.
  • Lactation: one hour per day, it can be extended to 2 in case of multiple births.
  • Union: 30-day license assumed by the company.
  • By adoption: 30 days off.
  • 𝖠𝗌𝗂𝗌𝗍𝖾𝗇𝖼𝗂𝖺 𝗆𝖾́𝖽𝗂𝖼𝖺 𝗒 𝗍𝖾𝗋𝖺𝗉𝗂𝖺 𝖽𝖾 𝗋𝖾𝗁 𝖺𝖻𝗂𝗅𝗂𝗍𝖺𝖼𝗂𝗈́𝗇 𝖽𝖾 𝗉𝖾𝗋𝗌𝗈𝗇𝖺𝗌 𝖼𝗈𝗇 𝖽𝗂𝗌𝖼𝖺 𝗉𝖺𝖼𝗂𝖽𝖺𝖽: 56 consecutive or alternate hours per year.
  • To undergo preventive oncological examinations: 1-2 days.
  • 𝖯𝖺𝗋𝖺 𝖾𝗑𝖺𝗆𝖾𝗇 𝖽𝖾 𝖽𝖾𝗍𝖾𝖼𝖼𝗂𝗈́𝗇 𝗍𝖾𝗆𝗉𝗋𝖺𝗇𝖺 𝖽𝖾 𝖼𝖺́𝗇𝖼𝖾𝗋 𝖽𝖾 𝗆𝖺𝗆𝖺 𝗒 𝖼𝗎𝖾𝗅𝗅𝗈 𝗎𝗍𝖾𝗋𝗂𝗇𝗈: 1 a year.
  • Tuberculosis treatment: one hour of leave.
  • Family history of Alzheimer’s: 1 day a year.
  • Volunteer firemen: for the duration of functions.
  • Members of the workplace health and safety committee or supervisor: 30 calendar days per year.
  • Represent Peru in official events: facilities granted for the duration of representation in national or international events.
  • For acts of violence: 5 days for a period of 30 days or more than 15 days in a period of 180 calendar days.
