The Ministry of Production (Produce) decided to conclude, as of this January 13, the Second Fishing Season 2023 of the anchovy and white anchovy resource, corresponding to the North-Central Zone of Peru, due to the start of spawning of summer.

According to ministerial resolution No. 00008-2024-PRODUCE, the unloading of anchovy extracted within the framework of the second north-central fishing season 2023 must be carried out within the next 24 hours after the end of the season.

Produce also clarifies that the processing of said marine resource must be carried out within 48 hours of the end of the aforementioned season.

Previously, Imarpe had issued its “Progress report on the Second Fishing Season for anchovy (Engraulis ringens) in the North-Central region of the Peruvian Sea between October 21, 2023 and January 4, 2024”, in the It is concluded that the reproductive indicators of the north-central stock showed that it has been increasing its gonadal maturation and spawning processes starting in December, “intensifying in the next ten days according to what is expected for the season.”

“It is recommended to consider all timely and necessary conservation measures in light of the increase in anchovy reproductive activity during the summer spawning period, in the next ten days,” the resolution states.
