The benefits and obligations acquired by insurance companies and those financing comprehensive prepaid health services have not been suspended due to the decision adopted by the Government to recognize the existence of an internal armed conflict in Ecuador.

This was clarified in an official statement by the Supervisory Authority for Companies, Securities and Insurance (SupercĂ­as) this Wednesday, January 10, in the afternoon. The control body assures that, in the event of an accident, they must be covered by the said companies according to the provisions specified in the policies or contracts.

With this announcement, the authorities are clarifying the prospects for insurance clients who were not clear about whether policies will change with the decisions made by the Government. Before this official announcement, some experts analyzed the situation and, for example, in the case of life insurance, pointed out that the coverage is valid at all times, except for suicide in the first two years.

In the meantime, SupercĂ­as indicated that, “if this is the case, it is up to this control body to analyze each situation and as such refute any exclusion of responsibility intended to be invoked as a result of the government’s announcement,” he warned. .

He also explained that, given that there is no war, declared or not, with another country, the policies and contracts in force to date have agreed coverage and benefits.
