For the third consecutive month, inflation recorded a negative figure, ending December 2023 at -0.02%, according to the latest data released by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC). In November, this indicator was -0.40%, and in October -0.18%.

While, driven by the category of food and alcoholic beverages, with an annual incidence of 0.87% according to the consumption section, annual inflation, which calculates the variation of the last twelve months, closed at 1.35%, significantly lower than that of December 2022, which was 3.74%.

On the other hand, the basic family basket cost $786.31 in December 2023, which means that the average family income ($840) covers 106.83% of the total cost of the basic family basket. The cost of the basic basket increased by 0.21% compared to the previous month.
