Alex Contreras has presented to President Dina Boluarte his resignation from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, according to sources close to La República.
A little over a year into the portfolio, Contreras steps aside, arguing that there is a “lack of transparency in some decisions” of the Boluarte management. At the close of last day, the president held a meeting with two former MEF ministers: Luis Carranza and José Arista.
Contreras recently insisted that the economy, after the recession, would rebound to 3% in 2024 and by 2026, it would achieve an annual average of 3.1%. “Growth will occur mainly in the second half of the year, with a positive first quarter that will accelerate throughout the year,” he told the press a few days ago.
During his stay as head of the MEF, private investment fell 7.3% and for the current period it would rebound 1.8%.
Likewise, the macroeconomic expectations collected by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) reflect that business pessimism persists in most indicators.
At the close of this note, it was learned that Alex Contreras has met with President Dina Boluarte.
