The country’s banana exports in 2023 – from January to November – are set to grow between 5.82% and 7.03% compared to 2022, according to the latest reports from export unions before the close of the year.
For their part, fruit exporters also stand out in these statistics. So Ubesa leads ranking of the 20 companies, according to the Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador (AEBE), that have exported the most bananas so far in 2023.
AEBE states in its report that the accumulated export of these 11 months amounted to 316.35 million boxes of bananas, while in 2022 it amounted to 298.94 million, which represents an increase of 5.82%, that is, that 17.40 million additional boxes were exported period banana.
Bananas maintained their good results and in 11 months they increased in exports by 7%.
For its part, the Association for the Marketing and Export of Bananas of Ecuador (Acorbanec) points out in its report that 326.09 million boxes were exported, which is 7.03% more than what was exported in the same period in 2022.
According to AEBE data, out of 316.35 million exported boxes, Ubesa exported 32.88 million with a share of 10.39 percent, which positions it as the main exporter. In 2022, the company exported 24.31 million boxes.
In second place is Reybanpac with a share of 6.90% (21.84 million boxes compared to 20.07 million in 2022); while in third place is Noboa Trading with 5.42% (17.13 million boxes compared to 13.25 million in 2022). According to the report, a total of 10 major companies in the country shipped 142.76 million boxes, thus placing 45.13% of the national supply of bananas abroad. The European Union is the main destination for Ecuadorian bananas
According to AEBE, the EU ranks first as the main destination for fruit exports with 29.04%; followed by Russia (21.27%); Middle East (14.31%); United States of America (8.99%); Southern Cone (8.99%), among others.
These destinations agree with Acorbanec’s report, but there are variations in percentages. For the EU with 28.89%; Russia (21.10%); Middle East (14.79%); United States (9.15%); Southern Cone (6.86%), among others.
