The New Year 2024 will move US$200 million in Peru

The turn of the year will mobilize 1.3 million people in Peru, who will generate an income of at least US$200 million for the national treasury, according to preliminary figures from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

Only between December 30 and January 2 The arrival of more than half a million tourists is expected (43% of the total) to Lima and Callao, a tourist destination that also serves as a passage to the rest of the regions of our country, where the other 800,000 visitors will be received.

According to Minister Juan Carlos Mathews, this flow of tourists to welcome the New Year 2024 brings us considerably closer to the levels recorded prior to the pandemic.

“The end of the year holidays are key moments for tourism, since travelers seek to escape the daily routine and enjoy new experiences with their families,” he said.

For example, 70.1% of total tourists will visit an already known destination, while 29.9% will go to a destination for the first time. The main destinations to visit are Lima (23.5%), La Libertad (12.6%), Arequipa (10.1%), Lambayeque (8.6%), Ica (5.7%) and Piura (5.6%), among others.

In the case of residents in Lime, 16% will travel to destinations located in the same region: Huaral, Huacho, Barranca, Canta, Cañete among others. After the Lima region, they will visit La Libertad (11.8%), Ica and Lambayeque (10.1% each), Áncash (9.2%), among other destinations located in the central jungle, mainly such as Satipo, La Merced and San Ramón.

Regarding the preferred destinations from the province, we have Lima (29%), La Libertad (13.2%), Arequipa (12.6%), Lambayeque (7.5%), Piura (7.3%), Cajamarca (6.5%), San Martín (6.0%), among others.

“Also Accommodation preferences are explored and the influence of external factors, such as the economic situation, on travel decisions,” Mathews highlighted.
