The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Juan Carlos Mathews, reported that Peru’s total exports would close 2023 above US$63,000 million, equaling the 2022 record of US$63,193 million.
In dialogue with Radio Nacional, the head of Mincetur highlighted that this year “new markets” have been opened for Peruvian exportable supply. Among these destinations, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia and Thailand stand out.
Another fundamental factor for the reactivation of local exports in 2023 was the modernization of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with mainland China, according to Minister Mathews.
“We would be at a level close to last year in terms of total export value, approximately US$63 billion, but opening new markets,” said the official.
Regarding regional exports, Mincetur expects that 11 jurisdictions will record “significant” growth, while another 5 would achieve “record figures” and exceed the levels reached in 2022.
The 5 to highlight are Moquegua, Pasco, Apurímac and Junín, encouraged by the recovery of the mining sector, in addition to La Libertad, which made progress in food delivery this year.
“I leave with a positive taste of progress. The numbers have continued to grow,” Mathews added.
