National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) published this Friday, December 22, the National Survey on Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment in which he listed some indicators in detail.

For example, the unemployment rate as of November 2023 is 3.5 percent, which means that 293,581 citizens are unemployed. However, this decreased compared to the same period of the previous year, which was 3.8% (318,363).

Furthermore, adequate/full employment has increased. In November 2022, the rate was 35.6% (2,981,886), and in November 2023, it was 35.8% (3,037,803).

On average, men worked 36 hours a week nationally, while women worked 30 hours as of November 2023, according to INEC.

This average of hours was slightly different from November 2022 only for men with 35 hours; for women it was the same: 30 hours.

INEC explains that this analysis is conducted for all employees over the age of 15. “The effective hours corresponding to the hours actually worked in the reference week are considered,” he says.

Meanwhile, Article 47 of the Labor Law states that the working day shall last a maximum of eight hours per day, so that it shall not exceed forty hours per week, unless otherwise specified by law.

“The maximum effective working time in the subway will be six hours a day, and only for additional, overtime or recovery hours, it can be extended by another hour, with the associated compensation and allowances,” the text states.

Public and private sector

INEC states that out of every 100 jobs, 94 are generated in the private sector and about 6 jobs in the public sector.

Furthermore, out of every 100 paid jobs, 86 are created by the private sector and 14 by the public sector.

Meanwhile, as of the previous month, the average income from work for employed men was $311.2, and for employed women was $270.
