The Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversión) and the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) have declared of interest the project “New Port Terminal of San Juan de Marcona”, located in the district of Marcona, province of Nazca, department from Ica.
This self-financed private initiative (IPA), which contemplates a reference investment of US$405 million, was proposed by the company Terminal Portuario Jinzhao Perú SA, and will be executed through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) modality in which the concessionaire will be in charge of the design, financing, construction, conservation and operation of the New Port Terminal.
After the declaration of interest, those third parties interested in the project may express their expression of interest to ProInversión within a period of 90 calendar days.
In the event that there are no third parties interested in the execution of the project who present themselves within the period of 90 days, – in accordance with section 89.1 of the Regulation of Legislative Decree No. 1362 (PPP Law) – the direct award of the project will be carried out. project in favor of the proponent.
Port of Marcona, Jinzhao and Pampa del Pongo
With the construction and operation of the New Port Terminal of San Juan de Marcona, the boarding and/or unloading of solid and liquid bulk, fractional cargo and containerized cargo will be attended to, among other services; The port will specialize in providing loading and unloading services, especially cargo of iron concentrates and other minerals and mining supplies, serving up to 19 million MT of cargo from the main mining projects in the area.
Specifically, Jinzhao is interested in the area due to the construction of its Pampa del Pongo iron mine (Arequipa), a project that recently reduced its working CAPEX to US$1,799 million. There are mineral reserves of 3,383 million tons.
“In this way, we will seek to boost foreign trade in the southern part of the country, favorably impacting the production of goods and services, and the generation of employment for the benefit of Peruvians. In addition, the State will be able to obtain more income as a result of the reactivation of mining production in the area,” highlighted the executive director of ProInversión, José Salardi.
The term of the concession of the New Port Terminal will be 30 years, counted from the signing of the concession contract, in accordance with Law No. 27943, Law of the National Port System.
