The Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) has warned about the presence of various applications since 2022 that offer loans without requirements and with immediate disbursements.
These applications, such as Loan Me, Nuevas Finanzas, Vs-cred, among others, are found in Google Play, but not in the Apple application store. These programs access the contact book, as well as the user’s photo and video gallery. Later, they use this information to extort money in case of non-payment.
The applications identified by the SBS that should not be downloaded are the following:
- Lend me
- New Finance
- vs-cred
- My sun
- Coryplata
- Credisol
- Zooprestamos
- Coco Credit
- Mint
- More Sun
- Lana Today
- Limacash
- Solya Cash
- Takay
- Sol Loan
- Lot
- Sun More
- Credit
- Confiocashhinance
- Too much sun
- Ekecash
- My Wealth
- Epplata
- Effective Bus
- Corimoney
- Super Credit
- Kwallet.
What are the dangers of these loan applications?
During the course of the year, the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) has identified 27 informal applications that provide money loans, either at the user’s request or even without the user requesting it.
According to the coordinator of Supervision of Informal Entities of the SBS, Daniel Reátegui, these informal applications offer loans ranging between S/1,000 and S/5,000, but they make deposits for amounts lower than those agreed upon and apply high payment rates. The most worrying thing is that, after the loan has been completed, these applications again deposit funds into the account provided by the user; Thus, the debt continually increases.
Recommendations to avoid informal loan applications
Given this situation, Colonel Marco Conde Cuéllar, head of the Robbery Investigation Division of the National Police of Peru (PNP), warns people to avoid downloading, even out of curiosity, these applications; since criminals tend to start extorting.
According to the officer, accessing these applications means exposing oneself to concerns and endless loans that are difficult to pay, in addition to facing a series of problems that will affect family members and close contacts.
The best strategy to deal with this fraudulent scheme, imported from Mexico, is to go to a police station if you have already downloaded the application and requested the loan, and file a report. It also suggests going to the National Directorate of Criminal Investigation (Dirincri) to follow the same procedure; In this way, the PNP will be able to initiate an investigation to identify the criminal gangs involved.
Conde Cuéllar highlights that the messages received from these gangs must be presented at the time of filing the complaint. In addition to submitting the police report, the colonel advises not to make any deposit or payment, since, even if it is paid, the criminal gang will continue with the extortion.
