Guillermo Lasso expects that the suspension of oil transport due to the erosion recorded will be exceeded in the next 17 days ‘if the rains allow it’

He acknowledged that, momentarily, this problem will have an impact on oil production, but will give more impetus to promote the project of doubling it.

The morning of this Tuesday, December 14, President Guillermo Lasso He said that he hopes that the suspension of crude oil transportation due to the erosion registered in the Piedra Fina River will be overcome in the next 17 days, “if the rains allow it.”

The solution to the problem includes the implementation of the seventh variant of the pipeline complex composed of the Trans-Ecuadorian Pipeline System (SOTE), the Heavy Crude Oil Pipeline (OCP) and the multipurpose pipeline.

“We are already working on what we call the seventh variant of this pipeline complex, so that, in 17 days, if the rains allow us to have overcome this problem, obviously, that the 17 days will generate a negative impact on us, because it will If there is a loss of oil production, it is not a loss of oil (…) then we will see how to mitigate the negative impacts in 2022, seeing how to increase oil production and how to be more efficient in the process of commercialization of the crude that is exported ”, said Lasso.

The president acknowledged that, momentarily, this problem will impact oil production, but will give more impetus to promote the project of doubling oil production in a medium-term horizon, between five and seven years.
