Produce authorizes the start of exploratory fishing for the bonito resource

The Ministry of Production (Produce), through Ministerial Resolution No. 00416-2023, declared reproductive ban concluded of the bonito resource (Sarda chiliensis chiliensis), which was valid since November 11, 2023.

Thus, as of Friday, December 8, the catch limits per vessel for the artisanal fleet are repealed and The second stage of exploratory fishing for this marine resource begins for a period of 12 calendar days. The activity will be carried out at the national level and the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe) will be in charge of monitoring and tracking the main biological, population and fishing indicators of bonito.

It should be noted that the Imarpe, In November, it identified that the bonito reached its reproductive peak and from December its reproductive activity would be reduced. Therefore, the ban established was intended to protect the resource.

Produce highlights that the bonito fishery is intended exclusively for direct human consumption and is carried out mainly by the artisanal fleet.
