In Ecuador, 37% of young people between the ages of 15 and 29 have not found a job. This is revealed by the Index of Transitions to Disadvantage (ITeD), a survey conducted by the international organization Ayuda en Acción on the youth labor markets in Latin America and Spain.
In its report, this international organization, present in 19 countries and in Ecuador for more than 37 years, also indicates that 67% of young Ecuadorians are looking for work with a lack of education because they only have a high school diploma: no. university studies, since in the country only 10% have a third degree and are looking for a job.
These are the occupations that are in the highest demand in Ecuador
The ITeD of Ayuda en Acción states that young women in the country are at a disadvantage compared to their male peers, as 39% of them have completed the transition to the labor market, while only 23% of the female group have achieved this. And of this population that managed to enter the labor market, 12% have work and educational deficiencies.
The survey also covers rural areas, and it is stated that 47.2% of young people engaged in agriculture have educational deficiencies.
According to the director of Ayuda en Acción in Ecuador, Carlos Hernández, The lack of opportunities for young people lies in structural causes such as: inequality, poor education, division of labor and insecurity, gaps that are deeper in rural areas. “As Ayuda en Acción we develop value chains that allow young people to engage in the sustainable production of natural resources found in their communities, such as: cocoa, coffee, among others,” he said.

At the level of Latin America, according to the report, 60 million young people, or 42% of people between the ages of 15 and 29, suffer from disadvantages that prevent them from accessing the labor market, and young women are in the most disadvantaged position, more than 50%, in most of Latin America from beginning of the current decade. Likewise, it is stated that 26% are looking for a job, and 32% have a job and are not actively looking for another occupation.
