President Guillermo Lasso announces that the Unified Basic Salary will rise to $ 425 in 2022

Increase of $ 25 is equal to the sum of all those made in the last four years. President offered in campaign to raise to $ 500 the remuneration in his management.

President Guillermo Lasso announced on Monday night the increase in the Unified Basic Salary (SBU) that will be in force as of January 2022. Over the weekend on his social networks he said that it is “a great surprise for Ecuadorians.”

This first increase, within his government, will be $ 25, that is to say that by 2022 a basic remuneration of $ 425 will be in force.

“It’s an additional $ 25. In a single year, we make an increase equivalent to the sum of the last four years. It is the highest percentage increase in eight years “, indicated the president, and said that” his government complies and not by simple electoral obligation, but by real conviction. “

In the campaign for president, Lasso promised to increase the base salary from $ 400 to $ 500 in the four years of his administration.

“In this government of the Encuentro, what is said is done. What is promised, is fulfilled. And what is offered, is delivered. Just six months ago we began to work with the illusion of building a government that is the common home of all, and where the results are not long in coming, “said the president at the beginning of his speech.

Lasso stressed that this salary increase seeks to improve the income of Ecuadorians and that the economic reactivation must begin with the most needy families and the workers who help the country grow and that wealth must reach the workers first.

“You know well that this president, like no other before, understands that employment is created with entrepreneurship and innovation,” he said, and stressed that no one before in the history of Ecuador has generated greater confidence in entrepreneurs to invest and create opportunities.

The president added that it is a firm conviction for him that the reactivation should be felt first in the most humble homes of Ecuador.

“It must be felt … in their food plates, in the purchases in the pantry, in the utility bills, and in every pocket of every Ecuadorian worker,” he said.

Lasso emphasized that “reactivation is not a mere percentage or economic indicator” and that it must have a human face, that of the neediest families.

“The positive data that our economy already reflects are of no use if they are not going to meet the first objective of every society: to meet the needs of the poorest,” he said.

On November 30, the National Labor and Wages Council could not agree on the possible salary increase for 2022. At that meeting it was announced that the amount will be set on December 22. The workers asked for an increase of $ 25 and the employers for it to be $ 2.66, based on macroeconomic estimates.

Before the announcement, there was already a lot of expectation. Édgar Sarango, representative of the workers in the National Council of Work and Salaries, said that a rise of $ 25 is feasible, that defeatist scenarios are always being presented, but that the workers are not responsible for it. And that the increase will generate higher consumption, higher productivity and, therefore, economic recovery.

Meanwhile, Rodrigo Gómez de la Torre, representative of the employers, confirmed in the morning that there is no agreement between workers and employers and limited himself to saying that, “apparently, the president has made a decision.” For him, a $ 25 hike would not be viable for thousands of small companies, which “are just raising their heads” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The salary issue is one of those that the regime wants to add to its list of kept promises.

During the announcement on Monday, Lasso recalled several promises that he considers have already been fulfilled or are being fulfilled, such as vaccination against COVID-19, removing millions of Ecuadorians from the risk center, strengthening the fight against violence gender and environmental care through recent pacts.

Regarding vaccination, Lasso highlighted that Ecuador has achieved one of the highest immunization rates in the world, exceeding 72% of those vaccinated with full doses.

Regarding employment, he affirmed that in the first four months of his tenure alone, 275,000 new jobs were created.

In addition, he referred to the fact that with the tax reform approved in recent days they have managed to reduce taxes to 97% of Ecuadorians and stressed that interest rates are also already falling.

This Monday, the Monetary and Financial Board and the Central Bank announced that eight of thirteen credit segments will have their interest rates reduced from January.

“The Ecuadorian family is already beginning to feel economic improvements in their telephone bills, purchases of diapers, sanitary napkins, masks, gel, disinfectant alcohol, among many others.”

To end his speech, Lasso said that in 2021, his administration has laid the foundations and that in 2022 they hope to build on them “an Ecuador of opportunities for all.”

He also referred to the Christmas and New Year’s Eve festivities, which he said will serve as a meeting point for families and asked Ecuadorians to continue being vaccinated and celebrate with “the necessary prudence and complying with the instructions of the authorities before the possible arrival of new variants of COVID-19 ″.

“Enjoy your parties. And you can rest assured that next year together we will continue to deliver ”, concluded the president. (I)
