Alex Contreras, Minister of Economy and Finance (MEF), noted that a meeting has been held with the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) where it was established that the Municipal Savings and Credit Banks (FEPCMAC) are correctly capitalized and do not require a financial contribution from the State.

“The savings bank system as a whole is capitalized and would not need that capital injection, What has been identified is that one to two boxes are having this problem, which can be corrected.which can be overcome without necessarily state intervention,” Contreras declared this Thursday, November 30, at a press conference.

Likewise, he reiterated that the Government has “significantly” increased support for municipal funds, establishing two liquidity injection and capitalization mechanisms.

Previously, Jorge Solís Espinoza, president of FEPCMAC, specified that Reactiva III should not focus only on the Crecer Fund, but on the micro and small business segment in general, and financing would have to be granted no less than S /5,000 million.

Along these lines, it has recently been announced that the savings banks are going through a reduction in their profits that ranges between 30% and 70%. Among the reasons is late payment and non-payment by some clients who had rescheduled their debts. In the case of Caja Cuzco, there was a 75.59% increase in its financial expenses because it had to pay to place loans on the market after the BCRP progressively raised its interest rates.
