Port of Chancay restarts tunnel

The Chinese company Cosco Shipping Ports restarted work on the Chancay megaport tunnel on the western side and is awaiting authorization from the National Port Authority (ANP) for the reactivation of construction in the eastern zone, stated yesterday Mario de las Casas, manager of Institutional Affairs of Cosco Shipping. He added that they expect the ANP to grant authorization next week.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the company is implementing modifications in the construction aspect, focusing on safety aspects.

“Even though we are 17 meters below the house, we are going to relocate those people while it is being built, because we advance an average of one meter per day,” he commented during his participation in a conference organized by the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the UNMSM.

De las Casas explained that the relocation will last two months and will involve those homes located within the axis of the tunnel; that is, up to a distance of 25 meters on each side of the construction.

Finally, he highlighted that the experts have concluded that the subsidence of the land, recorded in May during the construction of the tunnel, had its origin in the presence of human waste, such as pipes and garbage, deposited 10 meters below the four affected homes.

Data

Panorama. The progress of works on the Chancay megaport is at more than 50% and the investment would have already exceeded US$600 million.
