Concession ports moved more than 45 million tons of cargo in 2023

Between January and October 2023, the concessioned ports moved 45 million tons of cargo, 3.8% more than the same period last yearreported the Supervisory Body for Investment in Public Use Transportation Infrastructure (Ositrán).

The entity states that the figures reflect the productivity of the port terminals and allow the strengthening of exports, since 80% of the merchandise is transported by sea.

Port of Callao concentrated greater cargo movement

The Port of Callao concentrated the largest movement of total cargo through its 3 terminals: Multipurpose North Terminal, managed by APM Terminals Callao SA (14.9 million MT), the New Container Terminal-South Zone, operated by DP World Callao SRL (14.5 million MT) and the Matarani Port Terminal, managed by Tisur SA (6.1 million MT).

For its part, the Salaverry Multipurpose Port Terminal (La Libertad) moved 2.6 million MT; the Callao Mineral Concentrate Terminal 2.4 million MT; Paita Port Terminal and the General San Martín-Pisco Port Terminal (Ica) reported similar figures (2.1 million MT) and the Yurimaguas-Nueva Reforma Port Terminal reached 18,920 MT.

Container traffic

Regarding container traffic in concessioned port infrastructures, It exceeded 2.4 million TEU (unit equivalent to a 20-foot container) in the period analyzed.

The largest container movement corresponded to the South Pier (1.3 million TEU), followed by the North Pier (903,675 TEU), the Paita Port Terminal (903,675), the General San Martín-Pisco Port Terminal (10,274 TEU), the Matarani Port Terminal (6,225 TEU) and the New Yurimaguas-Nueva Reforma Port Terminal (1,099 TEU).

Likewise, in the period analyzed, The maritime traffic of ships in the ports under the supervision of Ositrán reached a total of 3,571 units, 185 more than the same period in 2022. The North Terminal of Callao stood out with 1,203 ships.

It should be noted that in the 8 concessioned ports, the Ositran is in charge of supervising compliance with concession contracts. This involves verifying that concessionaires comply with the obligations related to the investment, maintenance, operation and security of port terminals.
