Petroecuador guaranteed a normal supply of liquefied petroleum gas after the Monteverde-El Chorrillo pipeline, located in Santa Elena and Guayas provinces, transported its maximum flow of 250 tons per hour on November 26.
According to Petroecuador, in this way the demand for hydrocarbon tankers is met in a normal way, after the repair work on the oil pipeline, which suffered damage due to illegal actions, was completed on November 24.
During the days of the pipeline repair, EP Petroecuador maintained the shipment of this product via 40 tank trucks from Monteverde with extended working hours 24/7 and 600 MT/day from El Chorrillo (packing), with the purpose of guaranteeing the needs of consumers.
Since the restart of the gas pipeline, 10,800 tons of LPG have been transported to the El Chorrillo terminal. Today, with an interruption from 06:00 to noon, at the El Chorrillo terminal, 910 tons were shipped in tankers and 84 tons in cylinders of 15 kilograms (domestic use) and 45 kilograms (industrial use).
The Monteverde terminal continues to operate daily to complement product demand supply, delivering approximately 2,500 tonnes as of November 22.
The problems occurred on November 19 due to the secret breaching of the pipeline, so the pumping was stopped immediately.
This kind of intentionally caused damage could cause a disaster on a large scale, given that the gas is highly flammable. In this way, Petroecuador recalled that it had to activate its emergency contingent to manage the repair work. For this reason, there has been a reduction in stocks at the El Chorrillo terminal for clean products and it has been decided in a timely manner to divert demand from tankers loading the said product, until this problem is resolved.
