Las Bambas wants to continue operating in Peru, says Prime Minister Mirtha Vásquez

Mirtha Vásquez, president of the Minister council, noted that MMG Las Bambas he intends to stay working in the country, but the social conflict must be resolved.

“We have talked this week with the managers of MMG Las Bambas. They confirm that their wish is to continue working in those areas (Chumbivilcas). Conflicts are affecting them. If it is not solved, they will have a withdrawal, because they do not have how to provide themselves “, said the head of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) in dialogue with the Political Agenda.

Along the same lines, Vasquez He highlighted the approach that the company would take to address social conflicts in a “different” way.

Likewise, the premier affirmed that she has held a first meeting with the company on Saturday, December 11, and that she has a second meeting on the agenda for next Tuesday, the 14th of this month.

“We believe that this situation can be overcome. The company has the decision to continue operating in the area (Chumbivilcas). We have every decision to help de-escalate the conflict and manage these community concerns as they should be ”, emphasized Vásquez.

As it is recalled, since last November 20, several peasant communities in the Cusco province of Chumbivilcas once again blocked the mining corridor, arguing that the mining company MMG Las Bambas did not fulfill the commitments assumed.

Meanwhile, the copper company proposed for the Chumbivilcas communities a fleet of 14 trucks, 12 vans and investments in projects of S / 1 million per year.

For their part, Chumbivilcas representatives will present a counterproposal and summoned the mining company for this Tuesday in order to analyze their initiative.
