Those who earn over S / 300,000 per year would pay an additional 5% income tax

The Vice Minister of Economy Alex Contreras explained, in an interview for La República, the Executive’s proposal to increase income tax (IR) rates for those taxpayers who receive more than S / 300,000 per year, with an estimated maximum of 5%, which it would be a marginal section due to the excess.

“In other words, someone who earns more than S / 300,000, for the marginal, would pay an extra 5%, more or less S / 300,000. They are like S / 25,000 per month. So, if you earned S / 26,000, you would pay S / 50 per month. If you analyze it, it is a fairly small amount, “he said.

In addition, Contreras informed that this proposal comprises 0.4% of the Peruvian population, remains in accordance with what is paid in other countries and with the recommendations of international organizations. “We are talking about 8 million natural persons who pay income tax. More or less 34,000 people declare income above S / 300,000 ″, he explained.

He also indicated that the pandemic has widened the inequality gaps, so the State would use these taxes for this segment of people with advantages and high incomes to meet this demand.

“This COVID-19 crisis has amplified inequalities. It has set us back ten years in terms of poverty. It has accelerated inequality. So, the only way to make an effective State policy is to use these taxes to close gaps, to create conditions for a rapid recovery of the economy ”, he reported.
