The Society of Hotels of Peru (SHP) reiterated that the sale of tickets 100% virtually “is essential to improve the experience of those who visit Machu Picchu” and will contribute to recovering the image of our country as a tourist destination.
According to the organization, the current system of physical sales of 1,000 tickets to Machu Picchu is clearly inefficient and significantly harms all the efforts made in order to reactivate tourism.
“We see any attempt or measure to maintain this system as a setback,” the SHP said in a statement.
Peru is one of the few countries whose tourist flow is below 2019 levels. Therefore, SHP considered that the virtual sale of 100% of tickets to the Cusco sanctuary “is an urgent step.”
Recently, a commission of congressmen traveled to the Imperial City to verify the correct development of ticket sales. The Ministry of Culture (Mincul) also relented in its announcement to sell 100% of tickets online.
Various tourism unions questioned the decision, including Apavit, Ahora Perú and Apotur. According to the statement issued, the Boards of Directors of these associations understand that there can and should be dialogue between government authorities and local representatives.
