Who is Congressman Pazo Nunura?
Congressman José Bernardo Pazo Nunura, former mayor of Sechura and member of the Somos Perú caucus, is a fishing vessel owner. His family is dedicated to fishing and two of his brothers have a shipyard in Parachique (Piura)—called Astilleros Navales del Pacífico SRL—an area known to be a hotbed for the construction of illegal ships.
Despite the multiple questions from environmental organizations and the obvious defects due to conflicts of interest in their bill to formalize more than 2,000 illegal vessels that did not access Siforpa II (a formalization process that has already ended, and to which they now seek to enter through the false door with the ships they keep building), Pazo Nunura has received the support of Minister Ana María Choquehuanca herself, who has been in Produce’s chair for just over a month after her time as vice president of Confiep.
