HIAS is a global Jewish non-profit organization that provides critical services to refugees, asylum seekers and other displaced persons in 23 countries around the world.

Meanwhile, an activity that was part of the Program for Inclusive and Sustainable Communities took place in the Los Manglares room of the Marriott Hotel, after HIAS, with the support of IOM (International Organization for Migration), implemented a project to strengthen the capacity to access paid employment and self-employment of the population in the situation of human mobility and the local population in this city, reported Margarita Navarrete, coordinator of HIAS Guayaquil.

“The Employability Fair, held for the first time at HIAS Guayaquil, was an opportunity for participants to increase their chances of accessing decent employment,” announced the coordinator of HIAS, an entity that will provide at least 300 candidates in humane conditions. mobility and from the host community to bet on the possibility of joining the workplace.

Before online registration, the candidates who were interviewed during the Fair participated in training processes to strengthen soft skills, knowledge of labor rights issues, CV creation and use of digital platforms. All within the Program for Inclusive and Sustainable Communities.

One of the applicants was Denver Arroyo, 18, who arrived at the fair after passing HIAS filters. “With these fairs, there are more opportunities for employment, I’m 18 years old, I still don’t have much experience and HIAS helped me supplement myself by doing an internship, it made my training easier, they trained me about work, salaries, IESS, all that,” she said. is a young candidate.

Meanwhile, María Fernanda Larez, a teacher of Venezuelan nationality who has been living in Ecuador for two years, arrived at the fair with the hope of being able to enter a formal job, since since living in the country she has been surviving only as a trader. “The support that HIAS has given us is excellent, they have now advised us that we can participate today. They even advised me that I could settle down here,” he said.

For her part, Karen Córdova, Senior Coordinator for Economic Inclusion at HIAS Ecuador, indicated that the activity involved migrants as well as Ecuadorians. “There are companies here that are inclusive, that have socially responsible business practices and that embrace the same concept: promoting employment without discrimination,” said a HIAS Ecuador spokesperson.

For his part, Carlos Bazurrueta, president of the Guayas Restaurant Association, pointed out that the employment fair is an opportunity to interview experts from different fields interested in work. “The contribution of migrants, for example, within their culture and gastronomy, helps us.
