BCRP: Mortgage loans increased 5.2% year-on-year in September

The Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) reported that the Mortgage loans increased by 5.2% in September of this yearwhich represents an increase of 0.8% compared to August.

These results come after an increase was recorded in mortgage loans in soles, the local currency, which expanded by 6.3% in September. Besides, there was an increase of 0.9% compared to August.

Thus, it is observed that the dollarization of mortgage loans has decreased to 8.3%, which represents a drop of 0.5% in one year.

It should be noted that, according to the Peruvian Chamber of Construction (Capeco), housing prices are expected to continue with a downward trend in the third quarter of the year (July to September), similar to that of the second quarter. (April-June) which presented a drop of 0.5% compared to the period from January to March.

“We are processing the data for the third quarter and we are going to present them in the coming days, but it is most likely that the decline will continue,” said Guido Valdivia, executive director of Capeco, during the presentation of the Construction Economic Report No. 70.
