Between January and June 2023, they were attended to new loans to 108,366 clients in the formal financial system. According to Sandra Jáuregui, Commercial Planning Manager of Los Andes, more than 20% of these first loans were obtained in said entity.
It should be noted that at the national level, 57% of the population over 18 years of age accessed the financial system in the first quarter of 2023. This represented an increase of 15% compared to the same period in 2019, when the figure was in 42%. Despite this progress, significant challenges persist, such as the reduction of the access gap between urban and rural areas, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
While, in the capital, 62% of adults have access to the financial system, in the provinces, this figure barely reaches almost 36%. “In the case of Los Andes, more than 44% of credit clients (at the end of June 2023) reside in rural areas,” mentions Jáuregui.
Furthermore, in a country where women have historically limited access to financial services, the institution with headquarters in Puno has made progress in its inclusion, achieving that 46% of its credit clients are women (at the end of June 2023 ). “These achievements exemplify how the financial system can have a significant impact on society and the country’s economy,” stressed Sandra Jáuregui.
