In Peru there are around 118,061 farmers who are dedicated to organic production, of which 94% belong to the family agriculturewho carry out this activity in compliance with national organic standards and international requirements, in partnership with group operators.
Likewise, according to the latest information provided by the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa), organic production is carried out in the 24 departments, with a total of 485,215 hectares certified and 109,094 hectares in transition, that is, they are on the way to receiving certification.
In this context, the KuskaFest festival, to be held from December 15 to 17, seeks to link the production and consumption of healthy foods with the sustainable management of water, in sufficient quality and quantity for the food safety and nutritional of our country and the world. This occurs in a scenario where Peru is already experiencing the effects of Global El NiƱo and climate change and where 16.6 million compatriots live in food insecurity and 43.6% of boys and girls under three years of age have anemia.
It is worth mentioning that a necessary condition for the sustainable production of food healthy is access to clean and sufficient water. To this end, agroecology guarantees the availability and responsible management of water, because it prevents contamination of surface and groundwater, promotes efficient practices in planting, harvesting and efficient use of water.
