Aglomerados Cotopaxi received SGS verification for negative and positive carbon impact. The company, which assured that it is the first in the forestry industry to achieve this verification, indicated that it is the result of a carbon footprint measurement project created through a strategic alliance between the University of Las Américas (UDLA), the technical team of Aglomerados Cotopaxi and the financial support of an investment fund Finance in Motion.

This process took about two years. In addition, there was support from the Ecuadorian Consortium for Social Responsibility (Ceres) during the process.

What is the importance of obtaining carbon neutral certification for Ecuadorian companies?

The company pointed out that its forest plantations manage to capture 225,000 tons of CO2e per year, which is equal to offsetting the emissions of 48,000 vehicles traveling daily, significantly contributing to climate change mitigation.

Felipe Pazmiño, manager of the Aglomerados Cotopaxi forest, assures: “After neutralizing our emissions, we still have a surplus of 190,000 tons of CO2e that could be used to offset the emissions of other companies.”

Pazmiño announced this during a presentation at the UdlaPark campus. This space represented a unique platform for detailed research on the topic of carbon footprint, its field research and actions required for measurement and related work to obtain verification.
