In Peru, there are more than 13 million informal workerswhich represents more than 75% of the current workforce, said this morning the Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion, Daniel Maurate.
The head of this portfolio explained that, of this figure, 73.5% of informal workers are men and 78.6% are women. Furthermore, when analyzing by age groups, he mentioned that it is observed that informality reaches 80.7% among people between 15 and 29 years old, 71.6% among adults between 30 and 59 years old, and 83% among those over the age of 59. 60 years. In this regard, citizens with disabilities face the highest rate of informality, with 87.4%, that is, of every 10 employed people with disabilities, only 1 works in the formal sector.
Despite this, the information available on the characteristics of this population is scarce. For this reason, the MTPE is carrying out a registry to identify this population.
How is the registry of informal workers prepared?
According to Maurate, this registry will allow us to know the location, activities and other characteristics of these people. “We are going to build information on where independent workers are and we are going to establish other strategies to incorporate them (into the formal market),” he mentioned yesterday in Congress, during his presentation at the Special Commission for Monitoring the Incorporation of Peru into the OECD. .
The minister revealed that, for its preparation, the MTPE directorates work with various sources, among them, the data collected by this ministry during the delivery of the Independent Bonus. It is also planned to establish alliances with trade unions.
Ponte en Carrera observatory will be relaunched
On the other hand, the Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion announced that his portfolio will relaunch the Ponte en Carrera observatory, carried out based on the registry of formal workers who are on the payroll.
This data will include information on workplaces, salaries, study center and profession. “With this information, young people will be able to see which are the careers that pay the most in the labor market, which are the universities that place more young people in the formal labor market and which are the careers that do not have job demand,” Maurate highlighted. .
Likewise, he emphasized that, currently, 6 out of every 10 young people opt for careers that lack demand, which makes it difficult to find formal employment and leads them to informality.
