Population with adequate employment grew 5.3% in Metropolitan Lima during the third quarter of the year

During the rolling quarter between July, August and September 2023, The employed population in Metropolitan Lima reached the figure of 5 million 208,300 people, registering an increase of 4.5%, equivalent to 225,400 people, compared to the same period in 2022. In addition, it increased by 5.7% (280,900 people) compared to the same moving quarter of 2019, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in its technical report Situation of the Labor Market in Metropolitan Lima.

Likewise, theto population with suitable employment It totaled 3 million 74,300 people and increased by 5.3% (154,600 people) compared to the same period in 2022. Meanwhile, compared to the similar moving quarter of 2019, it decreased by 3.2% (102,700 people).

On the other hand, the underemployed population increased by 3.4% (70,800 people) when compared to the same moving quarter of 2022 and by 21.9% (383,600 people) compared to the same moving quarter of 2019.

In contrast, the unemployment rate of Metropolitan Lima stood at 6.7%, being one percentage point lower than what was reported in the similar moving quarter of 2022 (7.7%). In the moving quarter of analysis, it is estimated that 375,900 people are seeking employment.

Employment performance by sectors

In the mobile quarter of study, the female employed population increased by 6.1% (136,800), 2.9 percentage points higher than the increase in the male employed population of 3.2% (88,500 people).

Of the total employed population of Metropolitan Lima, 54.2% (2 million 823,000) are men and 45.8% (2 million 385,200) are women.

By age groups, the employed population aged 45 and over increased by 13.2% (224,000 people); while, the population between 25 and 44 years old did so by 1.5% (37,600 people); while the employed population under 25 years of age decreased by 4.9% (-36,300 people).

The employed population with non-university higher education increased by 16.0% (157,200 people) and those who managed to study university education in 15.2% (202,900 people). Meanwhile, the employed population with secondary education decreased by 5.8% (132,300 people) and those with primary education or a lower level decreased by 0.7% (2,500 people).
