After having been approved by the Council of Ministers at the beginning of the week, the Executive Branch yesterday sent to the Congress of the Republic its bill that seeks to create the new Peruvian pension system.
As had been announced by the President of the Republic, Dina Boluartethe proposal is incorporating the increase in the minimum pension for ONP retirees, which would go from S/500 to S/600. However, it is also being proposed that the maximum pension rise by S/107 to reach S/1,000. The amounts would be obtained as long as the member reaches 20 years of contributions and will depend on the contribution time and the average of the last effective remunerations of the working life.
Likewise, the project also includes an improvement in proportional pensions, which was created for ONP members who did not contribute for 20 years.
In this way, it is proposed that those retirees who have contributed between 10 and less than 15 years have a proportional pension of S/300. Currently, this group receives S/250.
Meanwhile, members who made contributions for more than 15 and less than 20 years would no longer have a remuneration of S/350, but rather S/400.
The Government seeks for the new pension amount to take effect as of January 2024 and hopes to benefit 658,698 pensioners.
The initiative establishes a state guarantee benefit so that a minimum or proportional pension is guaranteed to members of the ONP and AFP.
In the case of the Private Pension System, if the member has not accumulated a sufficient amount to finance a pension, he or she may go to the ONP so that in that system you can access a special proportional or minimum remuneration.
