Banco de la Nación: union announces strike and asks for salary improvements for workers

The Union of Workers of the Banco de la Nación (Sinatban) will carry out a national strike to demand better working conditions, a general increase in their salaries, and denounce the “mistreatment suffered” by the clients of said financial institution, as announced by its general secretary. , Jorge Calderon. To learn more details about the claims of this union that groups 5,000 workers, do not miss the following article from La República.

Sinatban announces strike: what are your demands?

According to statements for radio Exitosa given by the general secretary of Sinatban, Jorge Calderón Toro, there are a series of deficiencies in the management of the Banco de la Nación and the service they offer to their users. For example, he mentioned the case of various ATMs that do not have security cameras, the situation of the Santiago office, in Cusco, which does not have hygienic services, and warned that on October 30, said entity will increase the cost of the commissions on MultiRed cards.

We protest the irregularities in the administration of this management of the Banco de la Nación. As already seen in the media, there are ATMs that do not have cameras, but the fundamental thing is the increase in commissions. It cannot be possible that this entity has increased the commissions for people who have a MultiRed card from 50 cents to 2 soles. Now, all workers with savings accounts have to pay an increase that is more than 300%. The worst thing is that they are subsidizing the social programs sector, but we have pensioners who earn less than 500 soles, and they are being raised,” he explained.

Likewise, he said that the workers of the Banco de la Nación have gone eight years without receiving any increase, while the senior management officials of said financial institution earn between S/13,000 and S/15,000.

It cannot be possible that this salary inequality exists, where managers earn between S/13,000 or S/15,000, and workers earn S/1,800. This is on the pay sheet which is public. There are even productivity bonuses where they get from 40 to S/50,000, and the workers get S/3,000 or S/4,000,” said Calderón in Nativa.

Finally, he reported that, last Saturday, October 7, the National Board of Directors of Sinatban approved carrying out a strike between the end of October or the beginning of November.

What did the Banco de la Nación respond?

During an interview on RPP, the manager of the Agency Network of the Banco de la Nación, Héctor Cuadros, referred to the demands of the Workers’ Union of said entity and pointed out that the statements of its general secretary are inaccurate.

“The statements of the leader of one of the six unions of the Banco de la Nación are inaccurate, since there are bathrooms in all offices. On the other hand, we pay around 800,000 monthly bonuses from the ministries, mainly Midis and Pensión 65. Obviously, there is a load of clients during payment periods. It’s not that we serve poorly, but that we have an overload on some days of the month,” he said.

Regarding Sinatban’s complaint regarding salary inequality, the Banco de la Nación official said that the average salary of a worker was S/4,100 and that there are only 34 collaborators with that remuneration indicated by Calderón (S/1,800).

The Republic tried to communicate with the Banco de la Nación to find out its position on the matter. As of the closing of this note, the financial institution has not issued a statement in response to our request.
