The owner of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), Jennifer Contreras, supported this Tuesday, October 3, 2023, before the Budget and General Account Commission of the Republic of Congress, the budget statement of its portfolio, which amounts to S/2,720 million for 2024, which means a reduction of almost S/200 million (-7%) compared to this year’s Institutional Opening Budget (PIA).
The biggest cut is in the investment PIA, which went from S/1,623 million for 2023 to S/1,137 million for next year, which is 41.8% of the total budget. The minister explained that the reduction is due to the fact that when resources are assigned to regional and local governments, they do not execute them. In addition, she indicated that they are working in collaboration with these organizations to improve technical assistance and ensure that they carry out their projects.
The official explained that the agricultural function for next year will reach S/7,000 million (adding the resources of the national, regional and local Government), and which highlights the increase in funds allocated to the national Government, which will have a 11% increase compared to funds allocated this year.
He specified that the main resources will be allocated to various budget programs, such as the use of water resources (S/502 million); articulation of producers with markets (S/439 million); emergency care (S/234 million); competitiveness of forest resources and wildlife (S/112.5 million), among others.
The minister revealed that the budget project contemplates the allocation of S/1,137.3 million in investments, the main aspects being: 183 investments in irrigation infrastructure (S/383 million); agricultural production 42 investments (S/185 million); 8 investments in riverside defenses (S/131 million); Sierra Azul Fund (S/123.8 million); agrarian innovation (S/102 million), among others. The realization of 279 investments in the sector is contemplated.
