Petroperú will supervise construction of 20,000 new natural gas connections in the south

Petroperu reported that it will assume the supervision of the works to expand natural gas networks in the regions of Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna. These works will be financed and executed by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), through the Bonogas and Con Punch Perú programs.

The Executive has allocated a budget of S/170 million that will allow – in the first stage – the construction of 300 kilometers of network and will increase new residential connections in these regions by more than 20,000.

The start is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024, after the contracting process of the companies that will be in charge of construction has been completed.

The announcement was made during the forum “Massification of Natural Gas in Tacna”, where it was highlighted that, since 2020, Petroperú has played a crucial role as temporary administrator of the public natural gas service in southwestern Peru, ensuring its continuity with quality and efficiency.

Given the growth of natural gas production in the country and the policies of massification of natural gas in Peru, the demand for natural gas has been registering significant growth in recent years, with growth expectations in the coming years.

It should be noted that Petroperú currently operates the natural gas concession in Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna; It has built 396 kilometers of networks that serve 12,846 homes, located in Arequipa, Tacna, Ilo, and Moquegua.
