Arequipa: they appoint a liquidator to sell the assets of PrestaPerú owners

Arequipa. For savers affected by the closure of the cooperative Presta Peru In August 2019, the arrest of Los Embaucadores del Sur is the result of their denunciations and constant struggle to recover their savings.

After the closure of this financial institution, some 800, of more than 8,000 partners affected, decided to form the PrestaPerú Savings Recovery Association. In an interview with La República, Henry Hurtado, one of the members of this group, recalled that at the time they denounced 32 officials and workers of this cooperative.

Last Wednesday, December 8, in a mega operation, the National Police captured 11 of 14 people with a request for preliminary detention for 15 days. Hurtado adds that they have yet to include former branch managers, tellers and workers who they had identified as responsible.

“We liked this detention, but we were not happy, because they are two different paths. The penalty stops for them for having stolen the money from the savers, but the other way that we do care is to recover our money. They need to capture more heads and I suppose they will do it for a time, “he said.

Ex-congressmen Juan Carlos Eguren and Gustavo Rondón Fudinaga are also linked to the Tricksters of the South, who had two properties raided in Lima. Hurtado recalls that before the closure of PrestaPerú, rumors were heard that Eguren had borrowed a large sum of money and had not paid. “We have also heard the names of other former congressmen,” he said.

Money recovery

Hurtado also added that last week, The Judicial Power has already appointed a liquidator, who must proceed with the sale of the assets of the PrestaPerú owners and the recovery of others who have figureheads, in order to finally be able to recover a percentage of their money.

“The inspector of the SBS (Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP) has completed all the interventions and has sent the corresponding documentation to the Judiciary. A liquidator has already been appointed and now we are waiting to know how and where it will execute and what the conditions are. We estimate another two and a half years, we are advancing at a snail’s pace, but we are doing it, “he added.

Support for Credicoop savers

Last week, the SBS also closed the Credicoop cooperative, affecting at least more than 60,000 savers. Hurtado invoked the affected partners to use their experience as an example to achieve a solution at some point. “Do not report directly to the cooperative, report each of the officials, with names and surnames, and do not be fooled by some so-called lawyers who say they will help you, they ask for money, but in the end there is nothing left, “he concluded.
